Jenny Smy Fine Art - commissions undertaken

Who Am I?

I am a West Country artist living in Barnstaple, North Devon and have been painting for the last 25 years or so in Acrylics, Pastel and oils.

I usually try to portray what I see around me, in the landscapes, seascapes and skyscapes, of this beautiful part of this country.   Living in Devon, I am lucky that I only have to walk a mile or so to get to water. There are several rivers nearby and the local marshes and estuary provide the inspiration and motivation for my work. I am drawn to the abstractions in nature and they play a large part in my work, sometimes without my being conscious of their presence until nearing completion of the piece.

For the last three years I have been studying for a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, concentrating on painting. My work has changed markedly since my studying began and has move further into abstraction as a result. I am enormously grateful to the tutorial staff at Somerset college; a wonderful and dedicated team, who have enabled me to recognise my innate creativity.

I am a past president of the Pilton Arts Group, Exhibition Secretary of the Westward Ho! & Bideford Art Society and member of Devon Artist Network. Most of my exhibitions take place in North Devon and Cornwall. In 2003 I was selected as one of only three painters for the first North Devon Art Show and I have had work published in local papers and magazines.  My work is held in private collections in London, Scotland, Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Australia, Germany and USA.

In addition to producing original artwork, I am also able to supply prints, cards and notelets of my work.  Please contact me for further information.
